Offworld Refugee for Aseprite Mini Weekend Jam
A downloadable asset pack
The prompt for the jam was "Offworld Refugee" and required a main character, a companion and a scene. The scene is based on the famous "Earthrise" NASA photo which I've done my best to represent in this style before adding all the extras.
By my own preference I have worked within the C64 palette and graphical restrictions:
- the scene is made in multicolour mode (double wide pixels, 3 colours plus black per 8x8 tile)
- the sprites are in the multicolour/hi-res overlay style (multicolour sprites with white and red as their shared colours, pink for the main character's unique colour, brown for the companion's unique colour; these are then overlaid with hi-res black outlines to add detail).
Scene provided in original resolution (320x200) Sprites are provided in original resolution (24x21) side by side with 400% scaled to make them easier to see without zooming. The whole thing is then put together in the "demo" file to illustrate how it might look in game.

İt looks like a NES movie! Loved it
Nooo, that's so sad but I love the storytelling!
the surface and the earth look so good and that ray animation can be made a little better over all it was good
That extra animation on the beam was very much an afterthought when I was burned out but you're right.
You absolutely nailed that C64 aesthetic, and that Earthrise shot is bloody gorgeous!
